Michael Keeran | Assistant Coach

Michael Keeran is in his first season as an assistant coach for the VCSU baseball program.

Keeran joins the VCSU staff after one season as an assistant softball coach for Grinnell College, helping the team to a school-record 24 wins. This past summer he was head coach of the Albert Lea Lakers in the Pioneer Collegiate Baseball League. Keeran recruited a 25-man roster that went on to win the league championship.

Keeran is a familiar face to VCSU after playing four seasons in the North Star Athletic Association as a pitcher and outfielder for Waldorf University from 2013-17. He was a two-time All-Conference selection while at Waldorf and was named an NAIA Scholar-Athlete in 2017. Keeran holds Waldorf records for career batting average, wins and innings pitched, along with the single-season hits record. He went on to play for the Ozark Generals in the MINK Summer League, helping the team to a runner-up finish in the 2017 season.

During his summers at Waldorf, Keeran was an assistant varsity baseball coach for the Clear Lake baseball program in Iowa.

Keeran obtained a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Waldorf University. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in organizational leadership with a concentration in sports management.


Jacob VanVacter | Assistant Coach

Jacob VanVacter returns to the VCSU baseball program for his first season as an assistant coach in 2018-19.

VanVacter pitched for the Vikings during the 2016-17 season, helping VCSU to a 27-26 overall record and a third-place finish in the NSAA standings. He compiled a 3.74 ERA over 74 innings on the mound.

VanVacter most recently worked as the pitching coach for Northland Community and Technical College during the 2017-18 season. He helped the team to a second-place finish in the 15-team MCAC.

As an athlete, VanVacter started his collegiate career at Maple Woods Community College and Park University, both located in Kansas City, Mo.

VanVacter played two seasons for the St. Joseph Mustangs in the MINK Summer League and currently holds their single-season strikeout record.

He is currently pursuing a degree in communication from Valley City State University.


Lukas Johnson | Grad Assistant

Lukas Johnson joins the VCSU staff in 2018 as a graduate assistant coach for Viking Baseball.

A native of West Fargo, N.D., Johnson played two seasons of collegiate baseball at St. Cloud Technical and Community College in 2014 and 2015. The Cyclones took fifth place at the 2014 NJCAA DIII World Series, and Johnson was named an NJCAA Academic All-American in 2015.

Johnson received an associate of arts degree from St. Cloud Tech and then graduated from North Dakota State University in 2017 with a degree in business management. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree from VCSU.
